The schedule makers did not do the Winnipeg Jets any favours. Following a 5-4 loss against the New York Rangers in Madison Square Garden, the Jets will probably be back out to the ice to get a Friday night matchup against the New Jersey Devils. It isnt a very long visit and its only the second game of this season, so the Jets shouldnt feel overly tired or dizzy up.
Before heading through the gauntlet of a very long season it is far much better to get the games out of the way today. The Jets are the only group to have a back-to-back to start the season. While the Jets are enjoying their second game of the season, some groups will simply be creating their introduction.
It was a good effort from the Rangers zone last night, but lackluster in their own. Connor Hellebuyck seemed especially bad, as he had been beat for 5 goals on 31 shots. Hellebuyck wrapped up the night with a Terrible 0.839 save percent and 5.07 GAA.
That is not the beginning the Jets looked for from Hellebuyck. The Jets are likely not going anywhere specific if he doesnt revert back to the year he had in 2017. Without Hellebuyck playing sharp the Jets were not making it. Theyre also so that is going to put more strain on the man between the pipes.
The New Jersey Devils have high hopes to get their season after obtaining P.K. Subban. Before going to the Devils at a trade with the 21, subban spent seven years in Montreal and three at Nashville. Jack Hughes, the enviable prospect in the latest draft, dropped into the lap of the Devils from the draft lottery to put in a potential superstar into the fold. The Devils may be a year or two off, but theyre heading in the perfect direction. Head below to our free Jets vs. Devils pick.
The Winnipeg offence were able to hold their heads high after the loss last night. The offence still peppered Henrik Lundqvist with 47 shots despite failing to get a win out of the meeting together with the Rangers. He also kept the Rangers, although lundqvist may have enabled 4 goals.
If Hellebuyck cant help out in the crease, its going to be a very long season. He has Trouba, so the help defensively is not likely to be better than last season by any other means. By burying a goal against Hellebuyck for the 14, trouba additional insult to injury.
Dont dismiss the possibility of the Jets going to Laurent Brossoit as their netminder when Hellebuyck battles. Brossoit was strong as the copy in 2018-19. He posted a 2.52 GAA and also 0.925 save percentage with a listing of 13-6-2. The Jets havent named a beginner, but it wouldnt be surprise to see Brossoit between the pipes. If that is the case, he wasnt too good on the street a year past. He also owned a 2.75 GAA and also 0.909 save percentage over the street last season.
The Devils are predicted to go with Cory Schneider in web. Theyre depending on Schneider bouncing back after going off the rails at times a year. He finished with a GAA above 3.00 for the first time in his profession and has been close to seeing his save percentage fall below 0.90. Injuries were part of it to get Schneider. He started just 23 games after playing 40 and 60 the previous two years.
The accession of Subban to the blue line should offer some relief to Schneider. New Jersey were in need of a liner and they got their wise. In addition to improvements to this defence, the Devils needs to be strong offensively with Kyle Palmieri, Taylor Hall, and Nico Hischier.
Keep an eye. I am anticipating the 20-year-old to have a breakout effort for the Devils. This group should give a team on a difficulties tonight. The play of Jack Hughes will be the x-factor, when it comes to the game. He lives up to expectations as a newcomer as well as the Devils could slide . Schneider must fulfill his contract in web, also.
So far as tonight is concerned, look to your Devils to come out eager and motivated to set a game that is great night. They should be fresh and prepared to go from the Jets who are away from your home on a back-to-back. Consider the Devils in Newark on Friday night.
