Iridessa irresistible in Matron Stakes

Iridessa bounced back in the Coolmore’Fastnet Rock‘ Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

Joseph O’Brien’s three-year-old was prevailing for the time at the top level as she reduced the colours, amongst others, of Laurens – returning in defence of the crown won 12 weeks ago.
Iridessa, after finishing seventh at the Irish Oaks at the Curragh two weeks ago, delivered off, also established too great on this occasion for Aidan O’Brien’s double Guineas heroine Hermosa, that had been a three-quarter-length moment.
Even-money favourite Laurens set out to dominate in the front, as she frequently needs to telling effect.
But Hermosa was on her situation nosing facing two furlongs out before Iridessa produced an irresistible fee beneath Wayne Lordan, who has ridden her each of to her Group One cries.
Karl Burke’s British raider Laurens faded to finish a fourth of seven.
O’Brien said:“It is great. The filly was quite tough and Wayne gave a great ride to . We are on the moon.
„We were toying around with unique trips, we weren’t certain what her excursion was. She ran OK within a mile earlier in the year, we went 10 furlongs and that she even won.
„She raced well in the Oaks, but it was a very sloppy race, they proceeded very slow and sprinted up the right so we place a line through this.
„She is a fantastic filly, she appears to enjoy it when there is a bit of speed on in front of her and she’s something to operate at. I’m delighted for its owners.
„She’s a home-bred. Mum and dad bought this and the mare is the second foal out of her. She has some creatures and this can be a nice boost.
„It’s extremely important to find these Group Ones and this filly was a real flag-bearer for us that past year.
„The Prix p l’Opera was what we had in the back of our heads. Originally we were considering running in the Blandford, however, there was not too large a field here as we thought we came .“
