Japanese GP Practice One: Valtteri Bottas ahead of Lewis Hamilton

Valtteri Bottas edged out Lewis Hamilton within an impressive start for Mercedes of whats set to prove a Japanese GP weekend at the start.
With the impact of Typhoon Hagibis meaning the jogging of all Saturday was cancelled and qualifying proceeded morning – in 2am UK time, four hours before the race – groups have just two practice sessions to prepare their automobiles.
In warm, bright and calm conditions on Friday afternoon, Mercedes created by far the fastest start using Bottas and Hamilton one of the chasing pack.
Bottas, even though an earlier near-miss using Ferraris Charles Leclerc, set the rate with a 1:28.731, 0.076s clear of championship leader and four-time Suzuka victor Hamilton.
Sebastian Vettel, plus a winner in the sole circuit of F1, was third in the lead Ferrari ahead of Leclerc and Max Verstappens direct Red Bull.
As they bid to rally to the recent surge of Ferrari mercedes trialled some late-season upgrades for their W10.
