Despite suffering an accident world 100m champion Justin Gatlin stays to defend his name.
Gatlin pulled up hurt whilst competing in Zagreb on Tuesday holding on his hamstring as he faded to finish fourth in the race in a time of 10.29 secs.
His manager Renaldo Nehemiah has said he will return to training in a week after tests proved negative on almost any harm to the people.
„He said he started to feel something catching, so he immediately tried to safeguard against any potential injury happening,“ Nehemiah said.
Tests to Gatlin’s hamstring“showed he still had 100 per cent power in the leg and also there were not any adhesions or something,“ Nehemiah added.
This was the second time in a week that the 37-year-old had slowed in a race whilst leading.
Gatlin, with the fourth quickest time over 100m this season together with 9.87 secs, finished fourth at the Zurich Diamond League closing on August 29. Three days later he returned to form, winning a 100m race at Switzerland in 9.97 seconds.
The sprinter won Olympic gold in Athens in 2004 but served a four-year ban for doping between 2010 and 2006. He went on to win medals in the world championships in 2013 and 2015 then returned to win a bronze medal at the Olympics in 2012.
He went one better at 2017. This month, he will look to defend this title at Doha.
