Solheim Cup: Dame Laura Davies plays down inexperience on USA team

Dame Laura Davies is convinced when they take on one of the USA teams that are most inexperienced at Solheim Cup history, Europe will avoid complacency.
Disrupted prep has hit juli Inkster’s bid to lead her team to a third straight victory, with Stacy Lewis being made to pull out because of a back injury by Ally McDonald stepping to become the sixth rookie from the line-up.
Angel Yin has been not able to practice as her set of clubs have been arriving at Gleneagles, however Davies insists that the team will be completely focused on their particular games rather than being distracted by events from the opposition club room.
„It’s been an eventful start to Solheim Cup week,“ Davies told Sky Sports. „Generally on a Monday and Tuesday it’s about getting a feel for the place, wanting to relax as much as possible, and getting some fantastic practice.
„However, with missing clubs such as Jodi Ewart Shadoff along with Angel Yin, along with the USA being forced to make a late change to the team, there has been a lot more going on. Because she is such a major part of the team stacy Lewis needing to extract is a real shame for the Americans.
„However, Ally McDonald has played this season also, if anything else, she may actually be playing somewhat greater than Stacy. She will be all set for the battle and won’t shy away from it, although ally may be another newcomer. It will rob Juli Inkster of a seasoned participant, but Stacy is remaining with the team so her expertise can be utilised by them in the team room.
„Team USA now have six rookies in their line-up, and three have played a Solheim Cup outside the usa, but we definitely will not be getting complacent when we examine the inexperience in their group. Juli has a very good team with players that are firmly established on the LPGA Tour, and it is a tough qualifying process where you need to play good, consistent golf within the best part of 2 years.“
Europe stay 13/8 outsiders using Sky Bet before the edition of the championship, but Davies, who is enjoying her very first adventure of vice-captaincy beneath Catriona Matthew, believes the two teams are evenly matched and has predicted a close contest.
„The bookies now have us since the outsiders together with the Americans odds on to win, but with what I’ve observed from our team both on and off the course, it is even money in my book,“ added Davies, that remains the highest points scorer in the contest’s history with 25 points from her 12 looks – yet another record.
„Obviously we are hoping for a big win, but I have a feeling it’s going to be very near as it comes to the pinch on Sunday afternoon. We need to feed the home service and the atmosphere and take that.
„There will certainly be a terrific atmosphere around the first teewhere our gamers will feel the burden of expectation while the US team may feel a little intimidated. But I’d rather be on the home team all the way. Four of Europe’s five Solheim Cup wins are in the home, along with lots of this achievement is down to our“13th player“ beyond the ropes.
„Experienced or notevery single player will feel the nerves on this very first tee. It had been something I endured from, and I will admit that when I had been playing foursomes, I was absolutely happy for my partner to hit on the first tee shot!“
