Fulham 1-1 West Brom: Semi Ajayi earns late point for Baggies

The late header of semi Ajayi made West Brom a point as they drew 1-1 against Fulham.
Marcus Bettinelli’s mistake allowed Ajayi to go home after 80 minutes from the Sky Bet Championship conflict on Saturday, after Anthony Knockaert had brightly placed his side before four minutes after the break.
It intended though they stay somewhat off the pace of the group leaders, that the pitches were shared between a couple of the pre-season promotion favourites.
Fulham had a few chances to take the lead and dominated the first half. Following 16 minutes it had been Tom Cairney who discovered his own way through while in the half Sam Johnstone was called upon to deny Knockaert and Bobby Reid in rapid succession, but he rattled the bar with his effort.
West Brom were happy to sit back but did carve out an opportunity. Charlie Austin had two half chances to score, the first on 28 minutes which he acrobatically smashed the second seven minutes before the break, over the pub as he headed Matt Phillips‘ free-kick directly into the arms of Bettinelli.
It took a bit of magic soon after half-time for Knockaert to break the deadlock. Whether he meant it or not is another thing entirely, but the winger was able to discover the best corner from the edge of the box which left no chance to Johnstone with a beautiful attempt.
West Brom didn’t really undermine. His inadequate effort watched him hand the ball directly into the path of both Ajayi, who had an empty net.
Reed is onto his loan stint in the Sky Bet Championship, with spent campaigns at Blackburn and Norwich, also appears to be getting an excellent midfielder at this level. He helped control the game for big swathes of this action at Craven Cottage with his passing. He’s maintaining stalwarts Stefan Johansen and Kevin McDonald about the seat as it stands.
Fulham visit Sheffield Wednesday at 3pm following Saturday. West Brom are in action at home to Huddersfield on Sunday 22 at 12pm, live on Sky Sports Football.
