Bellagio Gunman Arrested After Splashing Cash on Hookers

Bellagio armed robbery suspect Scott Alan Carmitchel was arrested by Las Vegas police this week during the Hard Rock Hotel and charged with battery, grand larceny, burglary, and robbery by having a weapon that is deadly.

Carmitchel, 34, who lives in Kansas, possesses lengthy criminal record, is accused of going into the Bellagio casino in the evening of Friday, July 25 and robbing a cashier at gunpoint, before generally making off with $43,000. The cashier told police she feared on her life.

Law enforcement officers were led to a room at the Hard Rock following a tip-off from a tourist who became dubious of the man whom paid him $300 to hire a $405 room at the hotel. The suspect initially told officers his name was Scott Rice and claimed he had found a black colored bag full of cash in the Bellagio parking lot, with identification although he was unable to provide them.

He later acknowledged he had visited the casino that night, but had no memory of what had taken place that it was his image on Bellagio surveillance footage, but denied any knowledge of the crime, claiming.

INTERPOL Swoops Down in Illegal Gambling Crackdown

INTERPOL chief Jean Michelle Louboutin says massive profits lay behind the cross-continental gambling crackdown that is illegal.

INTERPOL has established the arrests of 1,400 individuals across East Asia; the outcome of a campaign that is six-week break up illegal gambling companies in the region. The operation, code-named Operation SOGA V, was a joint effort between police force from China, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam, and coordinated by INTERPOL, and saw the seizure of almost $12 million.

Illegal gambling is rife in East Asia, and wagers placed through the wagering syndicates, which can be controlled by organized crime, dwarf the European that is legal and American gambling markets many times over. Because it is clandestine and unregulated, it’s difficult to position a figure in simply how much the market is actually worth, but Foreign Policy magazine recently estimated that it could be around $450 billion.

It’s also believed that $140 billion in dirty money is laundered through the marketplace every year. INTERPOL said this week that the organizations broken up in the latest raid were estimated to possess managed around $2.2 billion worth of bets, most of those through unlawful online gambling sites.
